The Willful Wanderer
A story of willfulness, wandering, and forgiveness. "If Some poor wanderer should say, "But I have no mother to do like this for me, I broke her heart long ago:" O! let her not despair, for the truth stands good to all, whoever speaks or reads it. And if there is but a penitent desire to forsake sin and follow Jesus, the appeal of the helpless and forsaken will bring the arms of paternal love and pity round her, and the voice will whisper, "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort thee." The Worth of a Dollar
"The following narrative is a simple history or facts as related by a mother in Israel. The principal actor in the scene was a brother-in-law of hers, distinguished for his piety while living, but now with God. ... The deacon, who had listened to this artless relation with a heart swelling more and more with wonder, gratitude, and joy, could refrain no longer, but with hands and eyes upraised to heaven exclaimed, "My God, thou hast paid me again!" The Wrath of the Lamb, Revelation vi, 16
"We direct you, therefore, to this Lamb of God. This Lamb, once a sacrifice, is now an Intercessor. ... But should you go on trifling with his love, neglecting his salvation, "the accepted time, the day of salvation," will have passed away. You will then hear only of "the wrath of the Lamb". His blood will plead no longer."

They Forgot to Pray
"Evening dew refreshed the herbage after the heat of the day; and, trickling down to the roots of the plants, made them vegetate during the night. Lasting till morning, the [morning] dew provided new vigor wherewith to withstand the scorching rays of the sun. this merciful provision of Divine Providence aptly illustrates the invigorating influences of Divine grace upon a soul. In answer to the Christian's evening and morning prayers, grace descends into his heart as dew falls upon the tender herb. Evening grace refreshes the heart which is jaded with cares and anxieties of business during the day."

Things that God Hates
"We all have to meet our God in judgment, and it is therefore infinitely important to know what he loves and what he hates. ... His word says, "These six things doth the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination until him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hand that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."

Tithing. [A Sermon]
Rev C P Lyford
"In discussing this theme this evening we shall endeavor to show, I. That the Mormon system does not resemble, and cannot be deduced from, that system which prevailed under the Mosaic law. II. That it cannot be deduced from the teachings of the New Testament upon this subject; and, III. That it is in itself a system of extortion and plunder for personal uses by a despotic power."

To Young Men
"To you, young man, are these words spoken, with a significant and impressive meaning. You, too, if unconverted, are dead, and on your way to an eternal sepulcher. Mistake us not. Alive, indeed, you may be to all that this world calls life. To the pleasures of sense, the allurements of sin, the scenes of time, the great excitements of' the day, ....And yet you are dead; your soul is "dead in trespasses and sins." You are dead to holiness, dead to spirituality, dead to all real religion, to all scriptural hope of heaven; and each throb of your pulse beats in muffled tone your soul's funeral march to eternity, there to be tormented by the ever -enduring pangs of the "second death." Unconverted - not "born again - you have no union with Christ. You are not a child of God. You are unprepared to die, and unmeet to stand, a disembodied spirit, before the judgment-seat of Christ, to answer for the deeds done in the body."

Try It Now
Rev R H Howard
Scripture nowhere authorizes us to wait to fully comprehend the truth before heartily embracing it; but rather at once to make room for it in our hearts...

Warning and Counsel
"IT is no time to dally and trifle and speak softly when precious souls are at stake, and their eternal condition is so nearly concerned. "We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men." ... We would, then, give you WARNING. ... But let us also DIRECT and COUNSEL you. When a man asleep is rousted a little, he is, in some measure, capable of receiving and profiting by advice. Know, then, what you must do. Sleep no longer; be secure no longer."

Was Not Christ Immersed in Jordan?
"The nature of Christ's baptism was a public covenant engagement to "fulfill an righteousness." The sign and seal of this covenant-baptism was pure water. " It is finished," proclaimed this covenant fulfilled on Calvary by redeeming blood. The baptism of Christ on Calvary is an atonement for sin. The baptism of his people, with water, is the symbol-remission of sin; the reality being the baptism of the soul by the Holy Ghost. To talk of "following Christ," in his distinctive baptism, is a folly and a sin which requires his gracious intercession -- "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." "
