Catalog Description This course examines the Greek text of Mark. Detailed exegesis of the material in this Gospel will be the focus of this course, but with careful attention to the social, rhetorical, literary, and theological dimensions and implications of the text. There will be special attention to the Christological message of the book in its historical and canonical context.Introduction Among the New Testament Gospels, Mark’s Gospel is widely recognized to be the first Gospel to be written, and seen as an important source for Matthew’s and Luke’s Gospel. Mark presents us with a compelling narrative in the form of an ancient biography focusing on Jesus as the Son of Man who came to give his life as a ransom for many. Pre-requisites: NT 500 or 501/502, and IBS-- 1
