About This Journal

As a scholarly, peer-reviewed publication, the Journal of the American Society for Church Growth, now published as the Great Commission Research Journal, presents research from multiple disciplines, including:

  • Theology
  • Missiology
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Anthropology
  • History

The journal focuses on church-based ministry that aims to help people follow Jesus Christ, that is, to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20).

It focuses on both the practical and the theoretical aspects of evangelism, church planting, church growth, spiritual formation, church renewal, worship, and missions, both in Anglophone and non-Anglophone cultural contexts.

The Journal of the American Society for Church Growth began publication in 1990 under the title Journal of the American Society for Church Growth, adopting its present name in 2009. It is published by the Great Commission Research Network, an association of practitioners and scholars focused on helping churches to obey Jesus and to grow, both spiritually and numerically. This group of professors, church consultants, and other Christian leaders meets once a year for a conference presenting research with the same scope as this journal: evangelism, church-planting, church growth, spiritual formation, church renewal, worship, and missions.
