Summary

1. David Thompson. Bible Study That Works. Evangel Press, 1994. 2. Revised Standard Version of the NT (preferred because the text is less cluttered with paragraph headings, etc; NIV, NRSV, TNIV are also OK). 3. ONE of the following contemporary commentaries James Edwards. The Gospel According to Mark. Pillar NT Commentary. Eerdmans, 2002. Robert Gundry. Mark: A Commentary on His Apology for the Cross. Eerdmans, 1993. Morna Hooker. The Gospel According to Mark. Black's NT Commentary. Hendrickson, 1991. Eugene Boring. Mark: A Commentary. New Testament Library. Westminster/John Knox Press, 2006. 4. You will also need access to Joel Green, Scot McKnight, and I. Howard Marshall, eds. Dictionary of Jesus & the Gospels. IVP, 1992. I will require reading from this fairly regularly. I highly recommend buying it for your own library.
